Meet Vivian Coleman
CONTEMPORARY VISUAL ARTIST, ROOTED IN PLACE
Vivian Coleman is an award-winning visual artist known for contemporary abstract work in acrylic and watercolor. Her paintings are bold, colorful, and rooted in a deep connection to place—often inspired by landscapes, travel, and a lifelong love of the outdoors.

Her Creative Journey
Her creative journey began in her grandmother’s art studio and garden, and has since taken her around the world—from hiking in the Himalayas to kayaking quiet rivers and running sled dog teams in the Alaskan and Yukon wilderness. With a Master of Landscape Architecture from NC State, Vivian has spent over three decades shaping more walkable, bikeable, and people-friendly communities as a city planner and licensed landscape architect.

Her Studio Practice
The same thoughtful approach to landscape architecture and space-making shows up in her art, where texture and color combine to evoke memory, movement, and mood. Vivian’s studio practice reflects a life lived outdoors, with a curiosity for new places and a drive to keep exploring. These experiences feed her work and give it a sense of depth, story, and soul.
